Over the years, coffee has become a mainstay in the life of Elite In-Home Personal Training clients and many other health and fitness enthusiasts everywhere. It gives you a burst of energy when needed and best of all, it helps keep the fat off!

Some weight loss clients have been advised to drink 2 cups of coffee in the morning before a workout to help reduce body fat.  The client will wake up and drink 2 cups of coffee on an empty stomach. By the time they are finished, their Elite In-Home Personal Trainer should be at their door waiting to take them through another exciting workout.

The caffeine in the coffee will boost their endurance by prolonging fatigue and help the client burn just body fat. What many people do wrong is they eat a meal right before a workout and then wonder why they crash during a workout. Unfortunately, following the routine just outlined instead of the routine outlined in the second paragraph will only maintain or worsen your current weight and body fat levels instead of tapping into and burning your excess body fat storage to lower those measurements.

Some other benefits to drinking coffee are:

  • improvements to long term memory
  • stimulates the bowels
  • natural diuretic

Of course, plenty of clear liquids should be taken in to flush out toxins no matter how much coffee is consumed.

The only proven negative effect of coffee is that unfiltered coffee beans have compounds that could possibly raise your blood cholesterol as much as 20 points. Basically, stay away from coffee made in a French press. Many people claim the flavor is better but obviously not healthy for the body. Therefore, drink only filtered coffee!!

A couple of tidbits of information about caffeine:

  • 1 shot of espresso has less caffeine than regular coffee
  • 1 cup of tea has more caffeine than regular coffee
  • 1 cup of coffee can enhance your alertness

So, go ahead and have a java jolt and enjoy! Take advantage of the benefits a hot cup of coffee can do for you. One short, skinny latte to go could add amazing results to your life!!

There are many theories out there about aerobic or cardiovascular exercise breaking down the lean tissue in the body. Aerobic exercise (exercise w/oxygen) should be a vital part of your regular fitness program. You are not only burning calories but you are using the most important muscle in your body – the heart.

As your heart is pumping blood throughout the body you are increasing the amount of oxygen and the size of the blood vessels in your body. These blood vessels supply oxygen to the tissues including your muscles. The oxygen also carries out waste products to help with recovery and growth of tissue.

What type of cardiovascular activity is best for you and your goals? Running, jogging, and jumping rope are all examples of high impact aerobics and may tend to break down muscle tissue, burn more calories and with the presence of an improper nutrition program may lead to muscle loss. Walking and cycling at low to moderate intensity levels are examples of non-impact to low impact cardiovascular activities that will potentially minimize the breakdown of muscle tissue.

Determining what your ultimate goals are, whether overall weight loss, body fat loss or gaining lean body mass, will help you determine what type of cardiovascular exercise is best for you to reach your goals. It is very important to choose a type of exercise you will enjoy and will not cause boredom. Cardiovascular exercise must be performed for no less than 20 minutes. A slow, steady and long duration program will achieve greater fat loss results when done on a consistent basis.

One tip to achieving faster results is to complete your aerobic activity first thing in the morning prior to breakfast with plenty of water. Since your body has been burning calories during the nights sleep, body fat will be utilized as energy in the absence of glycogen in the blood stream.

In conclusion, the muscle tissue in your body is vitally important for longevity and ultimate weight control. By incorporating a regular weight training and cardiovascular exercise program in your daily routine, you can add years to your life and life to your years.

Below you will find a copy of the meal plan I am currently following.  I started following this meal plan about a week ago.  My protein intake went up a bit since my last meal plan and my fat intake is still relatively low since I only eat clean foods.  My carbohydrate intake went up quite a bit which is ok with me because I’m a high carbohydrate dieter.

Even though I only train three days per week, I realized I still needed to consume more food as I am working to get up into the mid – 240 pound range.  The good news is that after a few days of following this new meal plan I am  stuffed and I should be hitting 245 pounds in no time!    If you are interested in finding out how I can help you with your meal planning, please contact me at any one of the sites listed below.  I look forward to talking with you!

Meal Number 1

  • 7 whole omega 3 eggs, 1 cup of oatmeal, 1/8 cup of raisins, 3 pieces of whole wheat bread with jelly

 Meal Number 2

  • 8 oz. of Chicken breast, 2 cups of rice, 1 banana

Meal Number 3

  • 8 oz. of Ground beef, 12 oz. of Potato, 8 oz. of Iced tea with sugar

Meal Number 4

  • 8 oz. of Chicken, 2 cups of rice, 1 pear

Meal Number 5

  • 8 oz. of Steak, 12 oz. of Potato, salad (Yes, I eat salads!)

 Meal Number 6

  • 50 grams of casein protein and 20 grains of whey isolate, 1 cup of oatmeal, 1.5 oz. of Walnuts.

My trip to Muscle Tech/Iovate’s headquarters in Canada was an awesome experience! I was up at 4:30am (pacific time) and flew out of Sacramento International Airport by 6:15am.  I landed at Houston International Airport and jumped on another plane and landed in Canada  after about eight hours of travel.   I got asked a million questions as to why I was coming to Canada by the customs agent.  It was a bit ridiculous but I made it through.  A limo took me from the airport to my own the suite that Muscle Tech booked for me.  It was a thirty minute drive and I couldn’t wait to get off my butt and walk around.

I got to the hotel at about 7:00pm (eastern time – I was in Oakville/Toronto Canada). Upon checking in, the lady at the front desk promptly informed me that they were serving dinner until 7:30pm.  I ran upstairs, dropped my bags off and ate, and ate, and ate some more.  They had the best wings ever! By the time I was done my plate was filled with bones. Hey, I had to get my protein in you know?

After dinner I went back to my suite and called some friends.  I left a message for the first person I called saying something like, ” I guess you’re asleep.. its what… about eleven o’clock out there?”.  Shortly after, I got a call back and my friend said “what are you talking about?  Its only five o’ clock here”, laughing.  Needless to say I forgot I was the one on the east coast;  I was exahausted.  After being up for about fourteen hours that day (and I only slept three hours the night before), I fell asleep right away.

The next morning I got up and pigged out.  I wanted to make sure I still weighed 250 lbs for the photo shoot.  While I was eating I met the two other athlete’s that came for the photoshoot, George and Ty.  Both cool guys.  We talked for a bit then I left to finish getting ready.  We were picked up from the suites and driven to Muscle Tech/Iovate’s headquarters at 8:30am!  Keep in mind that to me it’s still 5:30am!

Once we arrived we were greeted by Athletic Talent Director, Aaron and he took us to the cafeteria and we ate again.  He gave us a tour around the building and it was very impressive; very high tech, definitely first class!  On our way back to the photo shoot area they gave us some Muscle Tech clothing as well as the new Hydroxycut Hardcore X that is out now. We did our photo shoot with hip hop music blaring in the background.  The energy at Muscle Tech headquarters is incredible! Its something that should be experienced by every fitness enthusiast!  After our photo shoot they surprised us with a video shoot and took our measurements!  I was dead on my goal! I weighted 250.8 pounds exactly!

Once that was done, we got a chance to workout in their gym with beautiful scenery of snow and trees just outside the windows!  With the music blaring we all went at it.  Also there was Matt Kroczaleski the world’s strongest 220 pound man.  We had a great time in there throwing the weights around!  They even had dumbbells that went as high as 230 pounds!  I had to take advantage of that situation and do a few sets with 180 pound dumbbells.  We don’t have weight like that here in Sacramento and luckily most people, especially Elite In-Home Personal Training clients don’t really need that much weight to accomplish their individual goals.  After our workout we were able to shower and change so we could go eat again.  All of the training facilities I just mentioned are available to the employee’s of Muscle Tech/Iovate!  They have a cafeteria for their employee’s and they only serve healthy food. They even have phisique transformation contest amongst the employee’s.  The person we met with next, Susan told me she won last year’s contest… and a $2,000 first place purse as well, SWEET!

At lunch we met with susan and she covered all the contract and technical issue’s and answered all of our questions.  Once we finished there we were picked up in a van and we were off to the airport to go back home.

I had a great time and can’t say enough good things about the type of company Muscle Tech is.  My next photo shoot with them is scheduled for May 2nd.  I’ll see you then!

AAAAWWWWW YEAH! Hmm Ginger. Between her and MaryAnn why would anyone want to get off that island. But I know another ginger that actually may not look as great, but is much more beneficial toyou and your health. Shall we?

Ginger is great for joints and muscle aches and can decrease your headaches. In a recent study, participants who took 500-milligrams (mg) tablets of gingerol, the component that gives ginger its bite, twice a day, for three months experienced the same reduction in inflammation as when they took aspriin for three months.

Ginger can also help with arthritis pain. Ginger relieves arthritis pain, we hear from Sung Woo Kim, PhD. Ginger supplements soothe osteoarthritic joints by inhibiting production of pain-causing prostaglandins.

Also Ginger eases nausea. In a review of studies involving a total of 363 people, those who were given at least  1 g of  powdered gingerroot capsules one hour prior to surgery were one-third less likely to nausea and vomiting during the first 24 hours after the operation than those who got a placebo capsule The theory behind this is that ginger may suppress the neurotransmitter serotonin, which plays a role in triggering nausea and vomiting.

Although the island Ginger is great to look at,she doesnt provide all the health benefits that natural ginger can provide to you and your body. If possible take a 100-mg supplement, such as Gingerforce, one to three times a day, and as always, check with your physician before taking any new supplements or vitamins. Until next time.

The health benefits from drinking coffee continue to be reported-to the point where many of the results seem almost too good to be true.

Coffee reduces diabetes risk. Drinking six cups a day slashed risk of diabetes by 54% for men and 30% for women in an 18 year Harvard study. Even drinking only one cup a day was found to reduce risk by several percent.

At least six other studies indicate coffee-drinkers reduce their risk if Parkinson’s disease by up to 80%. In addition, other studies have reported that drinking at least two cups of coffee a day can reduce risk of developing colon cancer by 25%, risk of gallstones by 50% and risk of liver cirrhosis by 80%.

There’s even evidence that coffee drinking offsets some of the health damage caused by smoking and excessive drinking-those who engage in such health vices but also drink cofee have been reported to suffer less heart and liver damage than those who don’t.

And other studies have indicated cofee may help control asthma, relieve headaches, lift spirits and even prevent cavities.

Coffee also increases athletic performance and endurance-until recently, it was a controlled substance at the Olympic Games.

Moreover, coffee is even good for children. One study in Brazil indicated that children (age 12 average) who drank coffee with milk were less prone to depression and were more alert in school. No study indicates that coffee consumed in reasonable amounts is in any way harmful for children

Does anyone know where the nearest Starbucks is?
